7 Awesome Google Chrome Tips - Part 1

Google_Chrome_Tricks.png

It’s no secret that we’re huge advocates of Google Chrome at Merus HQ! MerusCase, simply put, runs best on Google Chrome and Google Chrome itself has a ton of cool features that help you navigate the Internet with unparalleled efficiency. To help you quickly work in MerusCase using Chrome on both desktop and mobile, we’ve put together a few tips and tricks that we find most helpful:

1. Customize your homepage.

Since you’re most likely opening MerusCase first thing every morning, why not have it be just a click away after you launch your browser?

How to set your homepage in Google Chrome:

  1. Click on the Customize and Control menu in the upper-right-hand corner of your browser -- it should look like 3 horizontal lines stacked on top of each other.
  2. Choose “Settings” from the drop-down menu that appears.
  3. From here, find the “Appearance” section and choose “Show Home Button.”
  4. Click on “Change,” select “Open this page:” and enter https://meruscase.com/cms in the field to the right.

After making these changes, you will notice a house icon appears to the left of the address bar. Now, clicking this icon will take you directly to the MerusCase log-in screen (or, if you’re logged in, your account). So easy!

2. Save anything as a .PDF.

Aside from MerusCase’s handy print features, Google Chrome has a feature for desktops that allows you to print/save the page you are viewing as a PDF. This tip is super great if you want to save a browser’s content to your desktop without actually printing it.

How to Save as a PDF in Chrome:

  1. Click on File > Print in the Menu Bar (Cmd-P if you’re on a Mac Ctrl-P if on Windows).
  2. From here, the print dialog box will pop up. In the Destination section, select “Save as PDF.”
  3. Finally, Click “Save” to save the PDF to your computer.

After completing these steps, you will be given an option to rename the document and choose where you’d like it to be saved. No need to download an extra PDF converter, Chrome does it all for you!

3. Duplicate your current tab or open any link in a new tab or window.

Do you ever feel the need to have more than one part of MerusCase open at a time, such as your Calendar and your Inbox? Tired of clicking back and forth between pages? Well, Chrome has a solution for you and it’s super easy:

How to duplicate a tab in Chrome for Desktop:

  1. Right click on the browser tab you would like to duplicate.
  2. Select “Duplicate.”

Hope to open a link in a new tab or window in Chrome for Desktop:

  1. Right-click on any link.
  2. Select “Open link in a new tab” or “Open link in new window.”
  3. Your link will pop open in a new tab or window based on your selection!

How to open a link in a new tab or window in Chrome for Mobile devices:

  1. Hold your finger down on any link.
  2. Choose the “Open in a new tab” or “Open link in new window.”

4. “Pin” a tab for quick and easy access.

If you always have the same tab (or 3) open in your browser, such as your Inbox, Calendar, and/or Spotify, then pinning your tabs could save you tons of precious tab space!

How to Pin a tab in Google Chrome:

  1. Right-click on the tab you’d like to pin.
  2. Select “Pin Tab.”

Once you pin the tab, it will move all the way to the left side of your active tabs and shrink down, displaying only the open website’s icon. This is super helpful for keeping all your important tabs open without having tab overload.

Need to close a pinned tab? Just right-click on the tab and either select “Close Tab” or “Unpin Tab” and then close it.
