Don't be alarmed when you see this! We have anticipated this "error" and we want MerusCase to prompt you to set up your email with the new and improved mail sync in Merus. Please note that if you have never used Merus Email Sync - no action is needed.
With this new email sync, you will still have the option to set up your email using either POP3 or IMAP. However, we strongly suggest using IMAP instead of POP3 for a better user experience.
Both POP3 and IMAP are methods used to sync your Merus inbox with your existing email through an email provider (such as Gmail or Outlook). POP, which stands for "Post Office Protocol", doesn't support usage on multiple devices and often leaves users with lost messages. IMAP ("Interactive Mail Access Protocol"), on the other hand, supports multiple devices so that when you read, delete, or edit an email message in your Merus inbox on your desktop, those changes will be reflected when you access your email from your smart device or tablet. Everyone here at Merus personally uses IMAP and would be happy to answer any further questions you may have regarding this.
- Be sure you know your email address and your password (you will need to re-enter these in the new email sync setup on Friday, October 4th).
- On Firday, October 4th, once you see the message above, click on Take me to Email Setup. Alternatively, if you select Remind Me Later and would like to access it before Merus reminds you, go to Tools > Email Setup.
- Once clicked, you will be taken to a tab entitled Incoming Email Accounts.
- If you have never used email sync in Merus, click on Add New Inbound Email Account.
- Fill out Account Description, select the Account Type from the drop-down menu, and enter your email address in the User/Login field and password for this email account. All the rest of the information will be populated for you once you select the Account Type.
- Click Save.
- If you'd like to ensure that your email credentials have been entered correctly, click on Verify Incoming Email Account. If all credentials are perfect, you will see a yellow notification at the top of your screen stating "Verification succeeded. MerusCase will retrieve mail from your external account every few minutes."
- You're good to go! Check your new email inbox by clicking on Messages in the main menu.
If you would like to opt out of this new email sync, you must click on Take me to Email Setup once you see the message on Friday and click on Delete in the upper right hand corner to delete your previous email sync account. If you choose Remind Me Later, Merus will give you this same message each time you login or refresh your page.
